My Rockin' Front Door

Quiet Friday…

While yesterday was sunny and fantastic, its getting cloudy and gloomy here for the weekend…So I forsee today being a quiet day…

Yesterday I just didn’t have the heart to work in the studio, even tho I need to.  So instead, I picked up my second pair of socks that i’ve been ignoring for the past month, due to the fact that I was afraid to turn the heel/pick up the gusset.  I’ve only made one pair of socks (the orange ones) and the heel/gusset is such a small but intricate part of the process that I had forgotten how to do it.  Taking that into account, and the fact that I’m working on 2 circular needles instead of DPNs, I was struggling to find help on how to do this.  So, I spent the past month researching, googling, reading, you tubing, asking questions and all around building my courage up to turn those heels…Yesterday the sun was shining, Bette Davis was on the porch playing, so I sat out there with her, and we turned heels.  It was actually not as painful as I had built it up to be (I remember the first time I turned them, I thought “wow, that was easy”, but I had been walked through the process in class, and took no notes to help me).  I knew it wasn’t that it was hard, it was that I couldn’t remember what I had done exactly, and I dunno about you, but ripping work out is not my strong suit.  if I have to rip out, I tend to start over.  and I wasn’t going to start over with these socks, no way.  I’d be more likely to toss them altogether and I REALLy didn’t want to do that.  So I was nervous…but now, things are back on track, even tho I have a hole at my gusset that I have to mend.  That’s just inexperience in sock making, tho, I expect that…

Last night Brian and I went to the local small town humane society and played with the cats.  We signed up to be volunteers a few weeks ago and Brian has been going Mon/Thur to play with the cats, but I’ve been watching the Olympics.  So, last night we went together, and there are only 4 cats in there right now (the rest are at Petsmart trying to be adopted).  It was fun playing with them, they want to be held, and run around playing with toys,  They need time outside their cages (which are actually nice and big, with multi levels, so they can bounce around during the day), and some petting time.  The two ‘porch cats’ i took over a few weeks back are there, only cause they were just neutered and are now getting ready to go ‘on the show circuit’ for adoption.  We think the tabby (JB aka Jakob aka RJ) will be adopted quickly, but maybe not his very vocal brother Echo.  He’s black, which people get spooked about, and he’s noisy. Maybe if someone would adopt them together that would help his chances. Oh, and now Echo has some weird skin ailment at the base of his tail, and he’s losing his hair.  Can’t adopt him out like that.  So, he’ll stay behind, and probably not go with his brother JB.  Sigh…

There was another new cat at the shelter who looks very similar to Amelie except instead of dark spots, she has flame (orange) spots. But the same places – on her face, head and tail.  Plus she’s a big girl, and her tail fwaps and she’s vocal and isn’t so sure about other cats and dogs.  She seems exactly like Amelie, actually.  I found it amusing to think there’s a second cat like Amelie out there.  I hope she’s adopted soon.
