Kate Fowle Class October 20 and 21 2005

We had a great time meeting Kate and learning new tips in enamels and most importantly electroforming...the process takes over 8 hours, so Kate demo'd one bead for us, but we weren't able to do one ourselves - but we did get great info on how to setup a forming station at our home and make our own...As you can see, my favorite bead was the gold fumed one that I did - it just looks so super for only being clear glass and gold...I can see making an entire set, can't you?

I was especially tickled to take the class because I learned from Kate's videos years ago when I was just a beginner...I'm realizing that I learned more than I realize, I use her techniques for twisties, applying stringer, dots, encasing, goldstone, and she really helped me at just the right time..she's a very nice person and I am glad that I went..and will be even happier when I get the electroforming going...yeehaw...

oh yeah, i liked this one so much, I took two close ups of it...clear glass, fumed with gold and clear dots - I shoulda done these ages ago after learning to fume a year ago...but there's just so much to do, and not enough time...

I was just goofing around with bead shapes, so its not like I plan to make more in the 'christmas tree' shape like this, no...but I DO have some ideas rattling around in my head...dontcha just love how this thing looks?

These are Kate's beads that I bought..her famous 'pebble' bead with the 3 barnacles on it...the mudcloth bead that's in her book and the pendant with aqua and orange enamels sprinkled on, the cap at top is electroformed...

And these are my class beads...we fooled around w/ enamels, raku stringer (folks seemed to have a hard time getting it to strike, I had fun with it, tho), silvered ivory stringer, fuming in silver and gold, and painting in oils, watercolors and lustres...I have a couple of beads that aren't shown - they are so horrendous that they should never see the light of day, but I did decide that the oils and watercolors are not my taste..the lustres are like pixie dust and I liked those, tho...typical crap class beads, but then I've come to expect that and it doesn't bother me anymore...you know what's cool about electroforming? you can do it to anything including bugs and lizards...look out backyard, I'm huntin for ya!
