artist bio

I started lampworking when I took a class in October 2001... I didn't get back to the torch until December and my beads were hideous. I had forgotten everything I had learned. I soon realized I would need more help! In January 2002, I took an intermediate class that taught me how to pull stringer (as well as other useful techniques). Once I learned how to pull a stringer, I could then make dots and do application. I feel that that one technique opened the doors for me. my stringers were awful and my beads were extra lumpy, but I just keep going, knowing that eventually everything would settle down and I'd find a balance.

I've continued to take as many classes as I have been able to squeeze in and have done lots of self study on the web as well as just burned loads of glass at the torch. 'Practice' really is the best teacher for me, even though we all want to glean the info as quickly as possible. If osmosis worked, I would have slept with books under my pillow each night for months.

Lucky for me I've been able to start lampworking as a full time career, so I've been able to spend lots of hours at the torch. I've also asked lots of questions and have received loads of valuable information from many of the sites listed on my links page.
