The Fairy has landed
Is there a trick to growing long, strong fingernails? I've always had broken, chipped, ugly nails, while my hair grows long, fast and sturdy. I know they are made from the same materials - so how do I get my nails to grow? or at least how do I keep them from splitting and falling apart? I remember as a girl I would eat those red gelatin capsules we bought at Ben Franklin, thinking that would help, but it never did...I also bought Clearasil because I wanted to be part of the 'in' crowd, and they were all using it. Only I never had pimples that I needed to cover, so I would just put the stuff on a freckle and pretend. Deep down I was glad I didn't have the messy faces so many kids had, but I would keep buying that Clearasil cause it was the closest thing to make up I could use...hee...

Vitamin B Complex works for me and my nails. You can also get BlueBonnet Hair and Nail supplments that work too. Whole Foods carries BlueBonnet vitamins. But my nails use to be thin and would not grow. Now that I take Vitamin-B Complex daily my nails are strong and grow quite fast! Also, don't cut your nails. File them shorter, cutting will cause them to split.

I don't know how to grow them either Donna. I used to go and have them done....the fake ones. But when I started Lampworking I would burn them off. Let me tell you, nothing smells worse than burning fake nails! LOL
So what do I do now? Keep them short and well manicured. It seems clear fingernail polish on short nails is coming back in style. It will be the first time in my life that I current with what's going on. hehe

Donna,
Hello, I'm a first time poster but I always come to look at your site. My answer for this question is Nailtiques formula 2. It's a clear nail polish and the company (Nailtiques) has a few different products out there. But I used to bite my nails (and do so when I'm stressed) and when I want a fix to the problem I just use that. You put it on one coat everyday for thirty days, but you usually start to see results within one and a half to two weeks. Not miracle grow by any means, but definitely something to try. I usually get mine from sally's beauty supply or even dillard's in the salon area. Albertsons has it too but it all depends where you live. I used to live in Colorado so all those places had it there. Now I'm in Panama City Florida and no one has it here. I believe their website is www.nailtiques.com . Again, not a miracle grow and it doesn't work for everyone, but you may want to give it a try! Beautiful beads by the way!!

DONNA, I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM FOR MANY YEARS. I USE "SOLAR OIL".I BUY IT IN A HAIR SALON IN THE MALL. YOU CAN BUY HAIR PRODUCTS AND ETC. IT HELPS BUT IT WON'T CURE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN DOING ALTERATIONS FOR 15 YEARS. ANYTIME ONE DOES ANY TYPE OF WORK WITH THE HANDS DAY IN DAY OUT THIS WILL ALWAYS BE A PROBLEM. MATERIALS PULL THE MOISTURE OUT OF THE HANDS. I ALSO USE A HAND CREME CALLED AVEENO THAT YOU CAN PURCHASE AT WALMART. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Hi Donna! I used to work as a receptionist in a hair and nail salon about 10 years ago, and found this wonderful product for thin, brittle nails. It was a clear polish, where you would put on one coat a day for 7 days. After 7 days, you removed the polish and started over. This product was called REVIVANAIL, and after doing some searching on Google, I found out that it's still available. You should be able to find it at Walgreens, if not a local nail salon.
Anyway, it worked wonders back then, and I'm sure it still does! My best friend started using it, because her nails would never grow past the quick without breaking. She was able to get them to grow really long, which was a first for her!
Having long and strong nails is largely due to genetics, but this product should help keep your nails strong enough to grow to a good length.
Hope that helps!
