Had a nice day off...

I forgot to mention, my Corina Stringer Control DVD arrived the other day and I finally had time to sit and watch it last night...very good information, and I must say that after taking the class and seeing this info first hand - the DVD is almost as good as being there!! So, I recommend it highly!! She and Don took a great deal of effort to shoot the action from different angles, so you should be able to see everything that happens when applying stringer decorations to a bead...Even if you're not a beadmaker, but are only interested in what exactly happens when these little bits of glass are applied to a bead, you might consider watching the video. You can find it on Corina's site..its about $25.00...

Cleaning day went well - Brian vacuumed and I did laundry and we have a new Purple Martin Birdhouse being installed...the foundation pole and concrete was set yesterday, today its all birdhouse, all the time...I'll take pics of the final assembly this afternoon...and then melt...its going to be heat index of about 110 all this week - welcome to August in Texas...Ya know how ya'll in the North have to suffer through January/February (and more) with the 9 feet of snow, and day after day of it being 0 degrees? Well, in Texas, our summers are our 'suffer time'...and we're crankin' up the heat baby, yeah...99-100 are the forcasted temps for this week, and the 80% humidity drives it up to about 110 out...if you want to reenact this, just crank up your shower as hot as it'll go and bask in the steamy room afterward...Its so fun...but hey - it could be worse - at least I don't have to shovel this stuff...

Hi Donna
UGH I feel for you...I HATE the heat with a passion. Personally, I'd rather be shivering cold than hot anyday.
My parents & siblngs all live out in Arizona and every time we're having lousy weather up here in New England my father loves to say "so how's the weather?". When I say "lousy, rainy/snowy and cold", he'll gloat and say "really? It's 80 degrees and sunny here". He gets a big kick out of it. I should start doing it to him on the 112 degree days in Arizona..."so how's the weather dad? oh, really? 115?? Well it's 75, sunny, with a nice breeze here"...LOL
I lived in Arizona for 2 years before I graduated from H.S. and headed up to MA. One thing I remember about Arizona is that laying poolside feels EXACTLY like cranking up your oven full blast then opening it and sticking your face in front of it. Yeah, "it's a dry heat" but suffocating, nonetheless. It feels like you're standing under a magnifying glass and the sun is focused on you, personally. I hated it!
I love the weather here in New England. I love the snow but I don't enjoy driving in it...I drive like a little old lady, doing half the speed limit, white knuckled and bug eyed.
Spring and fall are the best!! I'm looking forward to the foliage this year...I was so stressed out and busy with school last year that I almost didn't even notice the trees.
OK, this is getting long-winded....
Have a good one--
Rachel

AND......
You pushed me over the edge and I broke down and ordered Corina's new DVD. Curiousity got the better of me. Maybe someday I'll be making beads and will put the lesson into practice!

I THOUGHT I might get you with this! after you saying how curious you were as how beads were made, this DVD will be fun viewing for you...and remember - Corina makes it look EASY..its not as easy to get those tiny stringers on the bead that way...trust me!! i've got loads of crap beads in my bead jar to prove it...

Yes...Donna is right...not as easy as Corina makes it look. Although the DVD is worth every penny !! I sat down on Saturday and watched it. I thought 'Oh, okay...now I get it' Went downstairs to my torch and tried it again. On about the 5th attempt I'm thinking 'Oh...that looked so easy when she did it' but I'm keeping at it. Practice, practice, practice...isn't that what you keep telling me, Donna?

Stay cool...growing up in Georgia...I can relate to those very hot days. Now I'm the one in Minnesota shoveling in -10 in January. I'll take the heat any day :)
