Are you 'Wonky Friendly?'
There's a beadmaker who makes beads that I love...I've been stalking her site for years and always think she does really interesting work..(and no, I'm not gonna name names, sorry, maybe I'm making all this up!)...one of the things I've noticed about her beads is they are beautiful, but not shaped very well...its not that they are BAAAAD per se, they just aren't as round or smooth or perfect as a perfect bead might be...but I'm actually ok with that...I think they are pretty, and I enjoy looking at them...
So, my question to ya'll is - what is your interpretation of 'perfect' beads? If you see a strand that you like, but they are a little wonky, would you still buy them? would you be embarressed to wear them? do you seek out 'strange' beads? (I have a friend who only ever WANTS the odd-lots, she prefers 'weird' beads instead of perfect beads)...I've considered making beads out of whack on purpose mostly organic ones, cause I think they lend themselves to being wonky...and of course there are the beads that turn out wonky on accident, but I'm not talking about making 'lazy' beads, I mean to make them wonky on purpose...just curious what you think...
Its 75 here today, but tonight its supposed to be 35..a 40 degree drop...no wonder everyone around here is sniffling and feeling woozy...the weather is always wacky in the winter...like I say, its either 'hot' or 'not as hot' here...its never really 'cold' for very long...the rest of the week in the upper 60's with rain, sun and wind...feels like Spring...the blackberries are still up and alive, for now...we'll see how it goes...the outdoor cats are sleeping on the pine straw mulch...i think its warm and dry...kinda like sleeping on a bale of hay, I guess...

I guess it would depend on how "wonky" they were. I would still buy them if I loved the bead, as long as it wasnt so off that it wouldn't hang right. But, I wouldn't sell anything jewelry made with a wonky bead.

I know someone a bit like the person you described. Those beads weren't my cup of tea . . . they don't hang right just look a bit "off." Though I do like beads that are not a regular shape but are well proportioned and hang correctly. I guess it would depend on how intentional the wonkiness looks! Does that make sense?

If you are talking about who I think you are, I agree. I know of someone who has beautiful beads, in a different style as yours, Donna, but she has a lot of room to improve in getting the beads symetrical, as well as all of the beads the same diameter in the bead sets. I like taking beads such as those and throw them into keychains, or make pendants out of them. I don't feel right when the beads are 'almost', but 'not quite' the same in size on a bracelet. It makes you look like you screwed up or something! I appreciate the talent and time a lampwork artist puts into design, composition, cleanlines, etc., to make a QUALITY bead.

Can you deliberately make a "wonky" bead? I think it would be a lot of work, if you are a perfectionist, to to do something like that. It just wouldn't "feel right" as you made it.
