Monarchs and Swallowtails
I saw my first monarch today...it was enjoying the lemon blossoms that are opening...I hope it was spreading the pollen to them all, so they'll create tasty lemons...Big swallowtails are starting to float by...and I forgot, but there is a large wisteria that grows in the wild in the field across from our house...its all over a large tree and its so pretty...when taking the dog for a walk tonight, I spotted lots of trailing verbena - the same stuff we planted in our yard - growing wild in behind the high school...its so cool to see plants we buy in the nursery growing wild...I tend to forget that the plants we buy and plant are ones that grow around town, if we just let them come up on their own...
We finally saw Catalina tonight, after releasing her back outdoors on Sunday...I'm glad to know she's still around...she's still keeping her distance from us, but once we came in the house, she came right up the stairs to eat (I was spying out my peephole on the front door)...
I couldn't resist, and had to buy a hanging basket of pink and purple petunias from the local nursery...I am kinda impatient at this time of year, I'm enjoying the color in the yard and just keep adding to it...once the native plants grow, they'll fill in all summer, but I'm busily augmenting the yard w/ daisies, petunias and annuals...I'm a sucker for flowers...
