UT Won the Red River Shootout...awesome!
Every year the UT Longhorns meet the Oklahoma Sooners in Dallas and they play football...every year I watch, sometimes through the slits in my fingers as I hide behind my hands...some years we are beaten in brutal, no holds barred games...and frankly, we've deserved...in 2000, the score was OU 63 UT 14...I still remember watching parts of that game, although I think I mighta passed out when a certain quarterback (he-who-shant-be-named) completely folded and nearly ran outta the stadium crying...man, it was awful...last year we even lost the game, although it was a respectable 28-21 loss...I can live with that...so each year, we cringe and get ready to have our heads clobbered...sure, the stadium is filled with UT fans (50% UT, 50% OU, split evenly down the middle), and sure we cheer, but we know what's coming...
...but not this year...this year OU was ranked 1 and favored by 7...UT was ranked 5 and the underdog has never won this game...the local radio talk shows were all saying we would lose...we knew we were gonna lose...I wasn't gonna put any money down on this game, cause we would lose (and I hate to lose money, so I don't gamble)...but the game was close...tight...interesting...exciting...when OU would score, so would we...they never got far out of our reach, we always kept up, even if we were behind in the score...and after 4 quarters and 3 hours of play - we won...we really did...it was fantastic...I imagine there are still cars driving around The Drag on campus honking, with plenty of bars still full of cheering fans, not wanting this day to end...Beating OU is difficult any year, but when you're ranked #1 and #5, its a big deal...and it means a lot...and we came out on top this time...and I'm still amazed it happened...did you SEE all fried foods on the table during College Game Day this morning? I think they fry ice cubes at the State Fair...I've never been to the State Fair, but I've been to plenty of county fairs and have seen my fair share of fried foods...I'm sure they taste great, but they look icky...I can't bring myself to try them...ugh...
