Dave Letterman is in Austin! I hope we run into him this weekend...I love Dave...he's the best ever...
Its that time of year, Holiday time...some folks celebrate Christmas, others Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Yule...and still others prefer the holiday with the fewest pine needles...with the most shiny pole...of course, I'm referring to Festivus!! Are you in the market for a decent Festivus pole? Last year's pole full of dents and scratches? Sometimes they get damaged during the Feats of Strength or can even be grabbed and used as a weapon during the Airing of Grievences...Be careful with your pole and it'll last you a long time...I always suggest Feats of Strength be handled outdoors where you can use large rocks to your advantage...
I'm zooming around today picking up stuff for this shindig I'm participating in over the weekend...what was I thinking? On one hand, I hope it'll be fun...on the other, I am not in the mood to drag myself and my beads anywhere...ugh...LAZY! Actually, its cause I've DONE these kindsa things before and they can turn deathly boring...the sun is hiding, and I'm ready to stay home and work, not run errands...sigh...I'll probably make a quick jaunt of it...at least I made my list yesterday so I can pick and choose what I don't feel like picking up...ha!
I finally...finally...finally printed new business cards yesterday...wha??? What is that you say? Yes, its true! I haven't had cards printed since we moved...what's that, almost 18 months now...but for the most part, I haven't NEEDED them...I can just write my website onto a piece of paper or someone else's business card, if they really really need to visit my site...but now...now...look out, buddy - I'm gonna be shoving these cards into everyone's hands now! I had to reinstall the software, it had become corrupted, and I had to update the cards, cause it was all old info, but all I did was remove eveything except my name, the website URL and a pic of the beads...
That way, they are timeless...and, seriously, I don't want folks calling me during the day...I don't answer the phone if I don't have to...voice mail is my friend...I answered the phone once when I was heading to Italy a few years ago, and the person on the other end of the phone talked for 45 minutes...45 MINUTES! I couldn't get her off the phone! And then, all of a sudden she says "well, I haveta go" and just gets off the phone...really? you waste 45 minutes of my time just jabbering on and on, and then its time for YOU to go? At one point, when she wouldn't stop talking, i just put the phone down and let her keep talking...yes...I know...but whaddya gonna do? I couldn't get a word in to tell her I HAD TO GO...and she had no problem wasting my time with her non-stop blathering...so I let her blather while I got other stuff done...so, I don't answer the phone cause I never know who is gonna be on the other end and won't hang up...seriously, if your call takes longer than 5 minutes, it better be an emergency...like your hair needs to be on fire..and even then, I only have 1 friend whose ever set her hair on fire, and she can call me when she does it again...I'll take her call...
I sure am...I've been playing at the torch coming up with some fun beads using some new and old presses that I haven't used in ages...mostly organic, and a little goofing around w/ some of the new glass...I've been invited to a little shindig this weekend, and need some stock, so these are going with me...however, I don't expect to sell anything (I always go into shindigs with this attitude, cause I've had some really bad days - folks locally don't really buy stuff, they mostly just look)...so I'll probably post these on Etsy next week that you can see...
Sure, it still says November on the calendar, sure we all have this on DVD now and can watch it in June if we want, but you should know that Charlie Brown's Christmas is on ABC tonight (8pm/7pm Central)...Another silly video for ya'll to enjoy...
What do you call the day after two days of rain (in Austin)? MONDAY! After a miserably cold and wet holiday, today is sunny and gorgeous...figures...but at least it isn't hot, I'll take cold, dry and sunny any day...
Yesterday was a day filled with football...and it was gooooood...
The Christmas tree looks great, so far the cats haven't torn it down, although a few of them have used it as a scratching post, but it hasn't been damaged...I believe the cats are too big to climb it, but then its just a matter of time...
Its cold and rainy here...it definitely FEELS like Christmas, but we are hiding out inside the house to stay warm and dry...I'm sure the malls are packed w/ shoppers, but the thought of going to a mall makes me cringe...I'm all about shopping online and having everything delivered right to our doorstep...easy!
The day after Thanksgiving we visited a local Christmas tree farm and cut down our very own tree...I've never gotten used to putting a tree up at Thanksgiving, but that's when folks in Texas start to decorate (we saw a neighbor who had their tree in their window BEFORE Thanksgiving - they are really in a hurry for Santa!)...so the tree is trimmed with lights and all sorts of ornaments we picked up over the years on our various trips to New York City...the cats have all had drinks from the tree stand, and we bought a new tree skirt because the cats peed on the one from last year...
I emptied a can of Scotch Guard on this one, but I'm sure before the holidays are over someone will have peed on this one too...ugh...
I've been making some of my favorite organic beads of late, just enjoying the torch...I've put away all the Autumnal Equinox stringer, twisties and rods, cleaned up the workspace and am ready to start on something new...I'm looking forward to figuring that out tomorrow...
I hear a cold front is sweeping the country, and we will all have cold weather for Thanksgiving...I'm glad to hear that..I remember we'd nearly ALWAYS have snow on the ground for the holiday when I was growing up...(in the Midwest)...Its time for snow and cold and holiday weather, dontcha think? Yes!
And, the other good news is, I've got ALL the orders completed and I'm heading upstairs to package and ship them today...yeehaw...it was my goal to get them out before Thanksgiving and I think I've met that goal...I managed to make 2 more bracelets from the 'extras' box too, and I'm always surprised at some of the extras I end up with...some I expect, and others just show up w/out me realizing...I tend to get a little carried away at the torch and I'm sure I decide to make extras at the time - and then forget what I've done the next day...
I had to double and triple check the orders to make sure I hadn't forgotten any beads in the orders, but they all seem to be there...
I've ordered some new glass and I still have the OLD new glass to go back to play with...so I've got stuff to do, fo sho...
I think I'm gonna take a few days off at the computer for the holidays to just get stuff done behind the scenes...so if you don't see me, I'm here anyway...sprinkling fairy dust on my torch and seeing what happens....
Enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend and don't get run over while shopping!
I stumbled on this site the other day and it appeals to both of my love of sparkly things and love of football...Its fun to see how the rings have evolved (or devolved) from subtle class to out and out freakshow...I can see why some of the guys don't wear their rings - they'd blind a plane at 20,000 feet...I do like the story about President Putin taking the Patriot ring, thinking it was a gift...how do you ask a Russian President to give you back your Super Bowl ring? You don't...
This is gonna be a weird week, with the holiday and all...I'm working until I fall over, but then I'm watching parades and eating cranberry sauce when I'm told to...and maybe we'll go hacking a tree outta the forest...So, if you don't see me here and there, I'm just behind the scenes taking care of business...
It rained for about 6 wonderful hours last night, with nice lightning and thunder...my buckets of pecans were wet this morning, it looks like I'm mixing up a batch of Pecan Soup...but I love the rain, so I'm not complaining...windows and doors open, enjoying the sights and sounds...and the cars all look nicely washed...
Just for fun we drove around some of the other small neighborhoods out here...poked around some of the homes for sale, peered in windows, and found the ones where we COULD move and the ones we'd NEVER move into...we have weird tastes, we don't like what everyone else seems to like, so its fun to seek out the types of homes we like...and our conclusion was, we bought the right house in the right neighborhood for us...and I bet a lot of other folks would never want to live here, but its where we are happy...plus, we get to see our neighbors farm animals! and we really enjoy that...we miss the moo-cow, she's been gone for a few months and all they have running around now are chickens and roosters...where are the goats? where is the moo-cow? where are the flying dragons??
Unlike the Loverboy song, I am working thru the weekend...but its ok, the beads are coming fast and steady and I like working when everything is clicking...its ugly and damp outside, not really cold, not really raining, just yuck...so I could go pick up the thousands of pecans in the yard, or I can listen to college football and make beads...
Maybe I should wear this as a possum talisman?
Last night I heard the familiar rutting of the catfood by the resident possum...so, being the chicken that I am, I would open the front door and yell at him to leave...all that achieved was forcing him to hide in the corner of the porch...Being as brilliant as I am, I thought 'I'll throw stones at him to force him off the porch'...but I didn't wanna break any windows or planters, so I tossed what I have an abundance of - pecans...and you know what? They didn't do a thing...possums ain't sceered of nuthin'...Eventually, he cleaned out the bowls and left on his own...I was mostly afraid he'd hurt Chloe or someone else on the porch, but I don't think that happened...
The little black and little white kittens we tried to trap a couple of weeks ago have resurfaced...bigger, cute, climbing trees and not letting us get near them..their calico mom is taking care of them and they all look well-fed, so we aren't as concerned about them...however, we would still like to catch/fix/release them to keep the population down...I spoke to someone last night who said the local blacksmith, who has a shop near the traintracks and lots of strays around his business is also trapping/fixing/releasing...I was glad to hear that, cause I thought all those cats were breeding...a neighbor said the cats near us keep the mice population down, so we don't want to get rid of the cats, which I agree with completely..once they are removed, new ones will move in (and they will be in tact - a never-ending cycle)...I learned a lot last night at the art meeting and had a good time...I'm not a very social person and I know very few folks out here (remember me=hermit)...but it was worthwhile, I'm starting to meet locals and become part of the town...crusty, dusty little town...
I have closed the orders for the latest round of Autumnal Equinox, the orders are great, and I need to work on what I have...and to make the next offerings, and to play at the torch...I need to manage my time better...so, on that note, I'm off to go see about some new glasses and then I'm back to see about some hot bead lovin'...
Did you watch South Park last night? At one point, Cartmen tells Stan that no chick is gonna wanna marry Kenny cause "no woman is gonna wanna eat Pop Tarts for dinner"...and what was I eating right then? I nearly choked from laughing so hard...Brian said 'does that make me Kenny?'...I told him 'poor people tend to live in clusters'...awesome...
Yes, that's right...a quiet day...I'm contemplating going back to Austin to look for some new glasses, but I dunno...perhaps I'll just stay home and work instead...regardless, it shall be quiet and uneventful and I won't get run off the road...
Hey, I've finally come around to the idea of getting a mailing list so I can spam ya'll (the crowd goes wild) with emails when I have new things to offer...but i'm too lazy to write the code myself, so if you know of a cool email sign up program, lemme know about it...
The orders are ticking in steadily, I started work on them yesterday, so I'll be closing the availability probably this afternoon...thus, if you are considering submitting your order, do so quickly or wait it out until I open it up again, whenever that might be...you've been duly warned...
Tomorrow is a pot luck dinner for the local art group, and my first opportunity to attend...what should I take? baked beans? cookies? brownies? chicken? I dunno, I'm still thinking about it...something easy and that I won't have to bring home...I'm leaning toward chocolate chip cookies..i bought a tub of the batter and forgot about it in the freezer (its not that old, but it'd be gone if I had remembered it)...that's easy...
Some days its just best to stay home and not fight the beast...I had an eye dr. appt in Austin, so early this morning I got in my car, and thought it looked odd...something was wrong...I leave my car unlocked, because its a convertible and folks who REALLY want in will find a way, even if it means slashing your $1700 top...so I'd rather they just open the door and take what they want and leave the top alone...and thus I guess my reasoning worked because they took my ashtray that was full of change (maybe $4.00 at best) and snapped my console where the trunk latch is, but didn't take my jumper cables outta the trunk..in fact, I don't think they took anything other than the change, which doesn't really bother me so much as to the fact that someone was in my car...but I don't keep valuables in my car - its a convertible and at any given moment the top is down and unattended, and thus, valuables are not wise to keep in sight...
So, off I go to my eye dr. (after putting 8 gallons of gas in, for $25.00...ugh, I used to be able to fill the thing up for $9...those were the good old days)...and everything is cool and the gang at the Dr. appt...I just found out that I'm getting old and need reading glasses to see really close up...I can read 'regular' close up just fine, and my distance has always been the issue, I don't see far very well, but I have glasses for driving at night and things have been humming merrily along for years...now I find out that I could probably use BIfocals or 'progressive lenses' which do the same thing, only w/out the BIfocal being noticible...wow, I don't FEEL old, I really don't, but there are times when it comes up and bites ya, and you realize your eyes aren't 25 anymore...I didn't like any of the frames, so I didn't fill the THREE prescriptions that I was given...sigh....
On the way home, everything was ok, I had the top down, I didn't get pulled over by either of the two policemen who were hunting for speeders, I had my pumpkin bread from Starbucks, and was almost home...until the oldest man on the planet who has no business driving decided to run me off the road...actually, I don't think he even LOOKED to know that I was in the lane next to him...We were both sitting in the two left turn lanes, I was in the right lane, he in the left...as we headed left, he just came on over into my lane like I wasn't there...I had to careen into the shoulder and the person behind me honked...I suppose they were honking at him - if they wanted to honk at me, go right ahead...what was I supposed to do? as we went thru the next intersection, he pulled off and I could see he musta been 80 yrs old and was used to driving in the country where you can pretty much drive however you want...except this was the city and I was nearly run over...Its not the first time I've not-been-seen, it won't be the last...
So, I'm home, most everything is in tact, save for my ashtray full of nickels, nickels, nickels and the kiln is warming up...I've got a full day of making some groovy Autumnal beads and kickin' back to some Steely Dan...Hope your eyesight is rockin and I'll be back w/ more tales from the country later...I prefer it when nothing really happens to me out here...heh...
This Teenie Weenie car from England is fantastic! When he drove into the elevator, I was cracking up out loud...
While I hadn't planned on doing this, I figure 'why not'...A few folks have asked me to make some more Autumnal Equinox beads for them, so if I'm 'going there' I might as well make it a party...Therefore, if you were wanting to order or reorder any Autumnal Equinox beads, get those orders in now...I have no idea how much interest is out there, I already have a few orders and will be tackling those this week...I can do as few as 1 bead, or as many as 100, whatever you may want is fine...I've still got all the stringer/rods/twisties pulled and ready to go (I was gonna make more for me anyway, cause you know its my fave color scheme) so jump in and send your order...rock and roll...
I was searching YouTube yesterday and stumbled upon these funny Charlie Brown videos...I'll be ruining Christmas for ya'll every few days as I post them...If you are easily offended or are extra fragile, you may not wanna watch them...I won't post anything that's offensive, but now a days you just never know what someone will freak out about...these are funny and silly...
The weekend was great, a little too hot to do any good yard work, but I did sweep the driveway and there musta been 3lbs of pecans there alone...I raked up 4 new piles of pecans in the yard and Brian watered all the plants...the butterflies and bees are still in full force and all the plants are in bloom for them, so we need to keep it all going till they tell us they've had enough...I do love the garden...
Bette Davis is doing great, she's very playful and alert and goes from the office into the spare bedroom to sleep on the daybed...she's not crying for Chester anymore and she seems pretty happy...I'm not sure how much longer we'll keep her indoors, it'd be really cool if we could find her a permanent home...
The grapefruit tree produced 3 nice-sized fruits and Brian had a taste of one...he said it was really good...it was mostly yellow, not pink like the ones you see in the grocery, but I'm pleased that it produced fruit that was edible...there are 2 more large fruits remaining on it...poor little stems can hardly hold the weight...our lemon tree produced lots of fruits, but I didn't know they didn't turn yellow, they stay mostly green, so I composted them instead of eating them..nice...what a dork...the lime tree didn't produce as much this year, but it did provide some nice swallowtail caterpillars and thats all it needs to do...so far this years garden has been pretty bountiful...I hope next years is just as good...
Things are MUCH better with Bette Davis...she's relaxed, playful, eating and drinking, she's not crying for her baby very much at all, she enjoys seeing us, we have the door open so she can come and go as she pleases...I also think that without having to nurse any longer, she's feeling better physically as well...she used to be quiet, sluggish and sleepy and now she's bright-eyed and alert...
so we are all feeling better now...the other cats are still wondering who she is, why she gets all the 'great' wet catfood and all the attention, but they are doing ok too...its not like they don't get full reign of the house or access to us...they just like to sniff out new members of the house...I dunno that she'll stay indoors, she likes it outside and now that she's fixed, having more litters isn't an issue...Jack Bauer and Chloe live outside and I think she'd be ok as well...we'll prob bring her in for the colder months (Jan/Feb) but for the next few days we'll keep her inside to watch her...
Last night we went on an 'Art Walk' that our little town has started...the second saturday of each month, 6-9pm all the downtown shops open up and the local artists bring in their wares and while it looks as though everything is for sale, we didn't see anyone buying anything...it was a nice night for an artwalk, tho...I might see about participating, but it'd only be for the fun of it - not exactly downtown NYC, but I should probably get out and meet some local folks...I'm tellin' ya, I am a HERMIT and I LOVE it that way...heh...
Bette Davis had a bad day yesterday...she never really stopped crying or calling out for her baby...the baby (soon to be named Chester) did really well yesterday, he let people at Brian's office pick him up and he clung to their chest...he was quiet in the ride into town, and we assume he's doing ok at his new home (we'll get an update soon)...But poor Bette was unhappy all day yesterday and after we went out for dinner last night, we came home to find her panting and stressed out...we spent time with her alone in the room and she settled down eventually...this morning she still seems restless, even tho she's quiet...she wants to leave the office probably to go find her baby, but when we leave the door open, she won't leave the room...we're letting her do what she wants and keeping an eye on everyone else so they don't bother her...they are pretty respectful of her, no one has attacked her, and we'll block them off if they get nasty...mostly they give her her space to come and go...mostly they just want to eat her wet cat food...heh...
After a successful email spam of everyone Brian knows, he got a 'hit' from someone who wants the orange kitty...she has other kitties, one of which is technically blind (from a disease) and needs a playmate...send in the orange kitty for playtime fun! Brian drops him off at lunchtime today to head to his new home...in the meantime, kitty's mom, Bette Davis has been calling for him to come back to her since 6:15am...non-stop...except when I go in there to pet her and calm her down...she's got free reign of the house, but she's hiding out in his office, waiting for the baby to return...its sad, but I know she'll get used to it in a day or two...and she's welcome to stay in here as much as she wants until she decides to go back outside (which she's done for the past 3 or 4 days, just to take a break)...
On the bead-front, I must say that I am LOVING this new crystal press...I've taken all the test beads and strung them together and am having a blast with them...sparkly!! One of the strands didn't have enough beads to make a comfortable strand, so I used a reject 'Globes' beads to temporarily fill the space till I get more crystals made...which coincidentally I'm going to do today...I should get ya'll some pics so you can see what I'm all jazzed about...
I guess its too early for a nap, huh...I need to shake my sleepiness off and get moving...I'm not a morning person, and everytime I have to wake up before sunrise, it just reinforces it...zzzzzzz......
Well, its not THAT bad, but the rest of the week will be in the 80's...still, I'll take that over the 20's or 100's...but it doesn't exactly FEEL like Fall...I still have loads of pecans to pick up, i think all the ones on the driveway have been stepped on and crushed, so I'll just broom them down to the street...i haven't seen many squirrels burying them, they do do that, right? where are they? and my birds are all gone too, i used to have a great flock of cardinals (like 5 or 6) and chickadees and they're all gone too...migration? I'm still waiting on the batch of finches, I saw a couple a few weeks ago but nothing recently...there was a bluejay yesterday, but that's about it...
The kitten came home just fine yesterday, he's been playing this morning and having a great time...they were both tuckered out after their big day, they ate and then fell asleep...today its all about the fun...
I'm looking around my computer desk area and seeing beads that I've scattered here and there over time..I'm forgetting what they are doing there...mostly spacers, nothing really exciting, but its funny when you can't remember why you put them there...normally I keep my beads in my 'beadbox' and they are organized by color, style, shape, etc...but I guess these spacers didn't make it into the box cause they had issues...
Are YOU seeing the Christmas ads on television like I am?? Macy's, SteinMart, Toys R Us, and more are all popping up...sigh...my Halloween pumpkins are still in my front yard...
The kitten (and mom) are at the vet, he's getting the full battery of tests, shots and hopefully the Big Snip...one minute they are telling us he's too small to have surgery, the next they say 'oh he'll be great, we'll take care of it'...we left the vet's office confused, but they seem to know what they are doing..I think the vet techs are a bit loopy but the vets have always seemed good...We are still trying to find him (and his mom) a home, I took pics and built a page, but need to finalize it before publishing it...the verbiage is always the hard part, he sells himself w/ his cuteness...
UPDATE: I'm posting the beads on Etsy, but its loading slowly...
I have 4 strands of 'play time' beads, I'll go shoot them so you can see...I really like them, but then I like beads, so what else is new...i wish the sun would come out, it looks like winter here, all grey and depressing...Mr. Sun, where are you??
Princess Bride! Napoleon Dynamite! Ferris Bueller! I can quote those too, i knew there were some that I'd forgotten...Alamo Drafthouse had a 'quote-along' a few weeks ago and the movie they chose - Monty Python's Holy Grail! Talk about quoting a movie! I didn't get a chance to go, the showings were late but it looked like it'd be a blast...I dearly love Alamo Drafthouse, its the only theatre I can bear to watch movies in...
Another play day at the torch yesterday, another day of 'I don't think I like these beads' and then this morning, 'hey, they came out better than I thought they would'...So, I think I'll try it again today...
I'm channel surfing and there's Mr. Mom on AMC...I think I can quote that movie backward and forward...which got me thinking, "what movie can I quote, or watch, no matter what?"...I love the Blues Brothers, I've probably seen it 40 times or more...and Stripes, I can quote those lines too...Mr. Mom of course...and What's Up Doc?...I can't quote, but will always stop and watch Clash of the Titans...wha?? yeah, its weird, i know...there are probably more, but I'm so engrossed in Mr. Mom that I'm not thinking right now...somebody stop me...
go turn your clocks back before you forget...
I had to take a few pics of the beads I completed in Round 1...it was a blast to see them all, run my fingers thru them, and want to KEEP them all...but I'm hearing from their new owners that they are behaving themselves in their new homes, so it looks like I made some well-behaved beads this time...sometimes, they get a little snippy and you have to settle them down...silly beads...
Its a gorgeous day here, we spent the afternoon yesterday listening to the UT game and picked up pecans from the backyard...there's still plenty more to pick up today and the rest of the week...we've found a place that will buy them from us, its not a money-making deal, we just need to keep them from rotting in the yard...I can't make 85 pecan pies with them.......or can I???
I just thought I'd share some people who I enjoy...you may or may not agree, and that's ok...
1. Keith Olbermann...I know him from the sports world, i don't really watch his show on MSNBC, but I enjoy him on Football Night in America and I like his 'most worst person in the world' segment...he seems like someone who 'gets it'...he's not just another talking head and I appreciate his honesty...(I also dig Bob Costas)..
2. Craig Ferguson...As much as I like Conan and find his show very funny, I've been watching Craig Ferguson cause he's hilarious...his monologue cracks me up, his interviews are funny and he's sharp...I liked him as Mr. Wick on the Drew Carey Show back in the day...
3. Ross the Intern...I don't watch much Jay Leno, but somehow I manage to catch a segment of Ross the Intern now and again...he's just so happy and smiley and someone who seems like he'd be fun to go shopping with...I like his positive attitude, he's not mean or bitchy, he's just silly...
4. Joel McHale...Brian and I have been watching The Soup on E! (its the ONLY show we watch on that station) and he's just a hoot...he's able to serve up all the stupidity of celebrity and put it all in perspective...we really like his little dog, Lou, too...there are other shows like Best Week Ever, but bah, Joel is the one...
5. Tina Fey...we just started watching 30 Rock and I think Tina is great...she seems down to earth, able to keep up with the big time actors and writers, she gets confused and makes mistakes but doesn't seem like an idiot...when most women in tv are there only for their body or hair, she gets by on her brains...smart...
6. Angelina Jolie...Sure, I hear you groan, and while she's not perfect, I DO like the way she lives the way she wants w/out worrying about what people think of her...I wish I was that brave and carefree...she has her own problems, but she does what she wants, the way she wants and she takes no prisoners...I admire her strength and honesty but I would not want to change places with her...
7. Cate Blanchett...she's just together and makes good choices in her work and life...she seems to know what she's doing, she's admirable, she's not a hollywood mess with a looney husband...we don't know much about her and that's a good thing, i think...
More later as I think of them...
One of the thngs that I've come to realize about 'play time' at the torch is while it is fun, its also frustrating...Its like driving somewhere unknown, without a map, and getting lost on the way...you might discover a neat little town w/ a great diner and have a wonderful meal, or you might just drive and drive and drive and never get anywhere remotely interesting...I pulled the few beads out of the kiln yesterday, some are ok, others are just 'eh'...but that's what playing is all about...you gotta make some Uglibeads in order to get where you wanna go...I miss Julie's beads, she always had such fun and interesting pieces...
When we bought our house last year, we were warned that we wouldn't get any Trick or Treaters...our house is down a small country lane w/ only 2 other houses and its kinda scary-dark down here (we still turn our porch light on and I had my plug-in pumpkins)...I bought two small bags of candy and we had not a one kiddo come visit us...but that's ok, I guess...I still got to enjoy Halloween and even in our house in Austin that was in the center of town on a city block, it was kinda hit-or-miss as to whether we'd get any kids, so we're kinda used to it...I know some folks would LOVE to not have any kids come to their house, but I always enjoyed dressing up and handing out candy...the house we were in 10 years ago was near the UT campus and not many children lived there...so most of my adult years has been rather Halloween Trick or Treater-free...I'm still not sorry we bought this house, we wanted to be out of the way, and we are...and that's ok...
So Brian and I ate some Snickers and Twix and got ill...too much...We caught Pushing Daisies and South Park and I watched part of Halloween until I fell asleep...another Halloween well spent...heh...
So now its the very quick downhill slide to Christmas...look out, its right around the corner...even tho we still have a thriving garden and butteflies all over it, we all know that the jolly fat man is coming soon...we'll be putting a tree up and lighting the house soon...I'm not ready...I don't even have a list of stuff I want Santa to bring me...maybe we'll just go on a vacation...we haven't gone anywhere in over 2 years, since we got our dog...I want to go somewhere interesting, informative, not a beach, no sun or heat or sweating...we get plenty of that...while we like living in Central Texas, its really hard to just jump in a car and drive to somewhere other than Texas...its a 5 hour drive to any border state...unlike living in, say, Pennsylvania where you could just drive to Williamsburg Va, or up north to Canada, we aren't close to anything other than more Texas...and frankly, we've seen plenty of Texas, we wanna see something ELSE...is that so wrong???
